Moving a MailStore installation to a different local path

To move a MailStore Server installation, where all archive stores are located underneath the directory of the master database (default location is C:\MailArchive) to another local path follow the steps below:

Note: The MailStore program directory path C:\Program Files (x86)\MailStore remains unchanged as this only contains the program data and no customer data

  1. Stop the MailStore Server service on the machine through the MailStore Server Service Configuration or the Windows Service Control Panel or by executing the command net stop “MailStore Server” from an elevated command prompt
  2. Move the Master Database directory (default location is C:\MailArchive) and all subdirectories to the new location. Directory structure must be preserved
  3. Run the MailStore Server Service Configuration utility and change the directory of the Master Database to the new location
  4. Stop the MailStore Server service on the machine through the MailStore Server Service Configuration or the Windows Service Control Panel or by executing the command net stop “MailStore Server” from an elevated command prompt
  5. Move the Master Database directory (default location is C:\MailArchive) and all subdirectories to the new location. 
    Note: Directory structure must be preserved
  6. Run the MailStore Server Service Configuration utility and change the directory of the Master Database to the new location
  7. Start the MailStore Server service again
Please be aware, that the throughput of the external hard-disk may have a negative impact on the performance of MailStore Server.
